Strong Foundation

The ReVAMP Reading process is firmly grounded in the essential work of Patricia and Charles Lindamood.  They built their process to restructure the brain wiring and ensure efficient and consistent processing of language.  Their approach helps each student feel how his mouth moves, match that with what he sees his mouth doing and links those sensations to what he hears.  Linking these parts of the brain helps students read, spell, and write to communicate effectively.

  • My process is built on the Lindamood foundation.

    • The process starts by explicitly linking what we see, feel, and hear to train the brain to efficiently process language

      • and ensure students can label each mouth movement with clear language,

      • describe each mouth movement and

      • match the movement with a picture.

    • The other essential Lindamood component of my process involves

      • using language to build imagery.

      • students are taught to use a set of words to help them picture what they read.

How ReVAMP Reading is Different

ReVAMP Reading is different in three important ways.

The ReVAMP Process:

  1. builds on the mouth movement and sounds instruction with direct instruction in what word parts mean and how to connect them to create words.

  2. links together all aspects of reading: connecting how to analyze words, with learning what words mean, leading to reading smoothly and with expression and finally joining every aspect to learn how to make meaning of what we read.

  3. focuses on the strengths and needs of EACH student to adjust the core elements of the process to how YOU learn best.
